MadMonkInBlack@aol.com"A man once said to me, 'How do you know beauty when you find it?' Taking his hand, I stabbed the palm, bid him hold it out before him, and said to him, 'Watch the wind.'"
That is the essence of who I try to be. The koan above teaches that one must always keep his eyes open for the beauty and the value in everything. It also teaches both that beauty can be found even in pain, and that those things for which we give our blood, indeed ourselves, are often the more beautiful.
Despite this grandiose introduction, I am a humble, simple man. I am a combination of mostly Cajun, some Irish, Slovock, and a smattering of others; many of them from poor backgrounds. I spend my life, or at least try to spend it, in continuing service to people around me. The idea of service, of helping people, easing their burdens and their pain, has been with me since a very young age. It is because of this that I am also trying, with various levels of success, to pursue a PhD in psychology. It is also because of this that I have studied healing methods ranging from Oriental to Cajun and quite a bit in between.
Beyond that, I am a writer and a poet {two different things, I assure you}, a student of religions, and a martial artist {concentrating in Japanese swordwork}. I am also a musician, most currently learning Middle-Eastern drumming. I am a lover of art in many forms, especially Renaissance-era and Victorian art, literature, and architecture.
But, enough of this. The rest one may find out with time, probably to her or his dismay. Enjoy reading what writing I do. In the meantime, my giant black tomcat Mojo and I will sit back, and listen to Andrew Lloyd Webber's "Requiem." I'll enjoy a pipe, he'll make mischief as usual, and we'll watch the long Louisiana twilight turn into night.
